Historic Preservation
The City of Birmingham currently has multiple historic neighborhoods interested in Local Historic District designation. The process is outlined in outlined in the City of Birmingham’s Historic Preservation Ordinance (No. 92-223 as amended by Ordinance No. 00-81). A Historic Preservation Plan tailored to each unique proposed district is required in order for an area to be considered for local historic district designation. Draft Historic Preservation Plans can be found at the links below or a printed copy can be requested by contacting the Urban Design Section of the Department of Planning, Engineering & Permits at 205-254-2479. Objection forms will be made available on the day of the meeting.
