Legion Field Stadium, also affectionately known as the “The Old Grey Lady”, was completed in 1927 as a 21,000 seat venue. The stadium was named Legion Field in honor of the American Legion. In the inaugural game, 16,800 fans saw Howard College (now Samford University) overpower Birmingham-Southern College by the score of 9-0.
The UAB Blazers will resume CUSA play at Legion Field in the 2017 season. Once known for playing host to the Iron Bowl and 1996 Olympic soccer, the stadium is now the site for the Magic City Classic, Birmingham Bowl, local high school teams, concert festivals and more.
The 2017 season will be a celebration of the 90th anniversary of the stadium that was Built by Legends.
