Equipment Management’s mission is to specify and maintain on a timely basis a large and diverse equipment fleet and automated fuel system in a multi-faceted environment that is used by City employees.

The Equipment Management Department services a mixed fleet of over 2,300 pieces of rolling stock that includes advanced life support vehicles, fire trucks, police cars and public works vehicles, etc. The replacement cost of this fleet exceeds 80 million dollars. A complement of fifty one automotive technicians and seven assistant automotive technicians process an average of 110 vehicles per day.

The City of Birmingham is committed to alternative fueled vehicles evidenced by the recent opening of two City owned E-85 fueling facilities.
