Alabama A&M University and Alabama State University will play at Legion Field on Saturday, Oct. 28, 2023 for the 82nd Magic City Classic.

Gates open at 12:30 p.m. The game starts at 2:30 p.m.

Important Things to Remember For Game Day 

The $5 shuttles will stop running two hours after the game. (Please see more info on the shuttles lower down on this page.)

All food and non-food vendors with permission to sell on Legion Field’s property, must be at Legion Field by 8 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 28. No exceptions. 

Gates 7 AB and 7C are some of the most-used gates on game day and they stay crowded. To avoid lines, please consider using other gates on the east and west sides of the stadium. 

If you park in Lot K or Lot J, which is the west side of the stadium and on the stadium side with the elevators and suites, please consider using Gates 1, 2, 3, 3A, 4 and 5 to enter the stadium. 

If you park in Lot M, Lot N or Lot Q on the east side of the stadium, please consider using Gates 8, 9, 9A, 10, 11, 12 and 13A. 

If you plan to approach Legion Field from Graymont Avenue, the gates in this area are 7A/B and 7C. 

If you have medication, including needles for diabetics, all medication must be in clear bags. Also, anyone with medication must go through gate A/B. 

Anyone using oxygen with plans to enter the stadium, must enter through gate A/B. The oxygen tank will be checked. 

Parking is $20 for vehicles and $25 for buses at Legion Field. 

Even though Alabama A&M is the visiting team this year, their fans will sit on the west side of the stadium. The west side has the elevators and the suites. 

Alabama State is the home team this year, and their fans will sit on the east side. 

The shuttles will drop off and pick up fans on the east side of the stadium. 

People who’ve bought tailgating spots at Legion Field and plan to drive to Legion Field or leave Legion Field and come back, need to remember that driving in and out of Legion Field will end at 8 a.m. on Oct. 28 for them. In other words, you will not be able to bring your car onto Legion Field property after 8 a.m. 

Please remember that Legion Field has a strict bag policy. No huge purses will be allowed. 

 

Street Closures for Magic City Classic 2023

Several roads will be closed on Saturday, Oct. 28 to accommodate the 8 a.m. Magic City Classic parade and the game day shuttles that will carry fans to and from Legion Field.

At 3 a.m. on Oct. 28, the intersection of Graymont Avenue and Arkadelphia near Legion Field will close. Graymont Avenue will close at 9 a.m. Once parking spaces fill up at Legion Field on Oct. 28, only those with game day credentials will have access to Graymont Avenue.  

If you park in the Officials’ Lot at Legion Field on game day, please know that when you exit, you will only be able to turn right onto Graymont Avenue. 

 

Magic City Classic Game Day Shuttle Details

Game day shuttles will be available on Saturday, Oct. 28.  Each shuttle ride is $5, roundtrip. Children six years old and under ride free. But every child attending the game must have a game day ticket. 

 Shuttle tickets cannot be bought in advance. Shuttle tickets can only be bought on the day of the game at the shuttle location where you will board your bus. ADA shuttles will be available at each location. If you need an ADA shuttle, please notify an employee at the shuttle location.  

Shuttle tickets will stop being sold at 4 p.m.

When you board your shuttle, please pay attention to the color of the sign and your boarding location. You will want to look for that same name and color when you get ready to board the shuttle when leaving Legion Field. 

Boutwell buses will have a blue sign. CrossPlex buses will have a red sign. Seventh Avenue North buses (in lot across from Phillips Academy) will have a yellow sign. 

There will be no post-game concert this year at Legion Field. The shuttles will run two hours after the game to return fans to their cars. Please pay attention to the time the game ends and plan your departure, accordingly. 

There will be on-demand ADA buses with wheelchair lifts at each shuttle location. Staff will be present to direct fans needing assistance. Upon arriving at Legion Field, those with wheelchairs should enter through Gate 7-AB. They will go up the ramp and sit in an area above the South End Zone.

 

There will be three game day shuttle locations:

1.BIRMINGHAM CROSSPLEX (ACCEPTED PAYMENT: DEBIT OR CREDIT CARD)

Park, pay and board shuttles behind the  Crossplex at 2340 Crossplex Blvd.

CrossPlex buses will have a red sign in its windows.

Hours: These shuttles will start running at 9 a.m. and stop running 2 hours after the game ends.

(Please note that there are fewer parking spaces at Crossplex than in previous years.)

2.BOUTWELL AUDITORIUM PARKING DECK (ACCEPTED PAYMENT: DEBIT OR CREDIT CARD)

Pay for shuttle ticket in front of Boutwell Auditorium. Board shuttle at Park Place and Short 20th Street North, which is near City Hall.

Boutwell buses will have a blue sign in its windows.

Hours: These shuttles will start running once the parade ends, which could be around 11:30 a.m. These shuttles will stop running 2 hours after the game ends.

3.DOWNTOWN (ACCEPTED PAYMENT: DEBIT OR CREDIT CARD)

Park, pay and board  shuttle at 7th Avenue and 23rd Street North (Across from Phillips Academy)

These buses will have a yellow sign in its windows. 

Hours: These shuttles will start running once the parade ends, which could be around 11:30 a.m. These shuttles will stop running 2 hours after the game ends.

 

How To Become A Licensed Vendor For the Magic City Classic

If you are a licensed or unlicensed vendor with plans to sell food or products during the Magic City Classic, you must have the proper permits and licenses. City, county and health department officials will be checking vending stations throughout the week. Please visit www.birminghamal.gov/mccvendor for guidance on what you will need. 

 

Information for Those Driving to Legion Field Or Wanting to Park Cars 

During the Magic City Classic 

Motorists who opt to park at Legion Field on game day should know that these parking spaces will go quickly in the early morning hours. Those planning to use Lot J and the Officials’ Lot on game during the early morning hours of Oct. 28, must enter from Graymont Avenue and Center Street. Parking is $20 at Legion Field.

Fans interested in visiting tailgaters on Thursday, Oct. 26 and Friday, Oct. 27, may park in Lot J at Legion Field for $5 from 3 p.m. to 11:59 p.m. Any cars left after 11:59 p.m. will be towed. 

Property owners who want to park 10 cars or more during the Classic, must have a business license to do so. That license is $100. For more information on how to secure such a license, visit www.birminghamal.gov/mccvendor

 

Magic City Classic Parade Info

For information about the parade, which will start at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 28, visit hwww.magiccityclassic.com/route/. It will be broadcast live on Fox6 in Birmingham, as well as Gray Television affiliates in Huntsville, Montgomery, Dothan and Mobile.

Streets connected to the parade will start closing as early as 3 a.m. on Oct. 28.

Please know that applications to be in the parade are now closed.

 

Legion Field’s Bag Policy

When are tailgating spots available to purchase?

The first round of slots were sold online on Sept. 14, 2023. The next opportunity to purchase tailgating spots was Monday, Oct. 23, 2023 at Legion Field Stadium. The remaining tailgating slots sold out on Oct. 23.

 

How many spots are patrons allowed to purchase?

Customers are limited to 2 slots per transaction. Spaces are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

 

What is the cost for purchasing tailgating spots at Legion Field Stadium?

What documentation must I provide to receive a residential pass?

Valid driver’s license, a lease or rental agreement and a current utility bill with your name and address on it. The address must be inside the perimeter.

 

How many passes will I receive?

Only people who reside within the affected perimeter will be issued passes. These people will receive a maximum of 2 passes per address. The passes will be issued with valid identification.

 

Tailgating Procedures at Legion Field

TAILGATING GUIDELINES

All tents and RVs must fit within the designated area (20’x40′). Additionally, there can only be:

one car and one  RV

OR

two cars and one, 10×10 tent within the recreational spaces.

The vehicles must remain in the tailgating space at all times with the parking decal visibly displayed and affixed to the driver’s side windshield. Any vehicle without a parking decal adequately displayed on the driver’s side windshield will be removed at the owner’s expense.

For safety reasons, a generator exhaust riser is required for those using gas or diesel-powered generators, RVs, and trailers and will be enforced for any vehicles exhibiting obvious exhaust fumes which may pose a threat to the general health and safety of our patrons.

Fire lanes must be maintained at all times. Any automobiles, tents, or RVs blocking fire lanes will be removed. Any vehicle removed will be towed by a wrecker service. All expenses for towing and storage shall be transferred to the owner. There will be no refunds for this violation.

You will NOT BE allowed to return to the parking lot without your parking pass. If you leave the tailgate parking lot for any reason, you must return to the parking lot by 8 a.m. on game day to guarantee re-entry.

Tailgating spaces may not be saved or roped off.

Policies will be strictly enforced.

No stages or tractor-trailers will be allowed in the parking lots.

You will not be allowed re-entry into the lot unless your vehicle has a parking decal (NO EXCEPTIONS).

How to rent portable toilets for your Legion Field tailgating experience

HHH Sanitation, Inc. will be the sole provider of all portable toilets, hand wash stations, and RV pump services. They will stop taking pre-orders at 4 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 20. For all pre-orders, fans must present a credit card number and that number will be charged the day of the order. There is just one fee for each product a fan orders. 

Fans who missed the Oct. 20 deadline can still order items from HHH sanitation the week of the Magic City Classic. HHH Sanitation will be set up in the bus lot of Legion Field the week of Magic Classic to take on-site orders. Items will be available, first-come, first-served.

Due to pedestrian safety, HHH Sanitation, Inc. will be unable to deliver portable toilets and other products to Legion Field after 3 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 27.  

There will be no deliveries on Saturday, Oct. 28.

Pre-paid orders are being accepted for portable toilets. Payment is due in full upon order. All major credit cards accepted ($1 convenience charge added).
