Birmingham, AL – The City of Birmingham proudly presents “Through His Eye: The Photography of Chris McNair,” a captivating exhibition that pays tribute to Birmingham’s civil rights era through the eyes of the late photographer Chris McNair. This exclusive exhibition features 22 images captured by Chris McNair during that pivotal era, including ones of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the Rev. Fred Shuttlesworth, Rosa Parks, A. G. Gaston as well as poignant shots of McNair’s beloved late daughter Denise who tragically lost her life in the infamous 16th Street Baptist Church bombing. This is part of the city’s yearlong commemoration of the 1963 civil and human rights movement. The exhibition will open its doors to the public starting Tuesday, Aug. 1 and will run until Saturday, Sept. 16.

“We are thrilled to present this extraordinary exhibition that honors the work of Chris McNair, a talented photographer whose dedication to capturing the essence of the civil rights movement has left an indelible mark on history,” said Birmingham Mayor Randall L. Woodfin. “This exhibition not only showcases his artistic prowess but also serves as a moving tribute to leaders of the movement, foot soldiers and McNair’s daughter Denise, reminding us of the sacrifices made during those challenging times.”
