City to open warming station on Thursday and Friday

Birmingham, AL — In response to predicted temperatures falling into the low 20s, the City of Birmingham will partner with the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex to open a warming station to the public on Thursday, January 6 and Friday, January 7 at the BJCC located at 2100 Richard Arrington Jr. Blvd. Those needing warm shelter can come to the South Exhibition Hall from 6 p.m. to 8 a.m. on Thursday and from 5 p.m. to 8 a.m. on Friday. If the current forecast of freezing temperatures holds, a warming station will also open on Monday and Tuesday.

Since the beginning of this recent winter weather event, the City of Birmingham has offered cots, food and masks/PPE to emergency shelters. Bottled water and individually wrapped packaged snacks are needed for those who wish to donate. You can drop items off in front of the Boutwell Auditorium from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. this Thursday and Friday. Please do not drop off clothing.

In collaboration with One Roof, those needing warm shelter should also reach out to our ongoing partners: The Salvation Army, 2015 26th Ave. North; the Firehouse Shelter (for men), 626 Second Ave. North; and First Light (for women), 2230 Fourth Ave. North.
