Birmingham’s three community safe rooms opened at 4 pm today
Birmingham, AL – The City of Birmingham’s three community safe rooms opened at 4 pm today, March 19.
The safe rooms are at the following locations:
Pratt City Park, 1331 Third St., Pratt City
Jimmie Hudson, 305 Pratt Highway, Pratt City
Smithfield Estates Park, 1707 Huntington Drive, Smithfield
Residents are encouraged to sign up for Everbridge, an emergency alert program presented by the City of Birmingham and Birmingham 911, to receive updates about severe weather and the safe rooms. Notices are sent to a home or mobile phone, email address or text message of those within a ½-mile radius of the safe room. To receive a notice, residents must sign up for Everbridge. Everbridge also distributes quick notices in other situations, including unexpected road closings, missing persons and evacuations of buildings or neighborhoods.
Residents are encouraged to monitor the National Weather Service’s severe weather threats via a NOAA weather radio, commercial radio and local television news today.
