Birmingham’s Christmas Tree Lighting and Parade
Presented by the City of Birmingham and Birmingham Park and Recreation on Sunday, Dec. 8, 2019
Mayor Randall L. Woodfin will join parade marshal Noah Galloway and Santa for the City of Birmingham’s holiday parade on Sunday, Dec. 8, 2019 at 4:30 p.m.
The parade will start at Fifth Avenue South and 15th Street South and end on Short 20th Street North in front of City Hall. The lighting of the Christmas tree will follow with Mayor Woodfin, council members, Santa and Galloway, a Birmingham native who came in third place on “Dancing with the Stars” in 2015. Galloway was injured during the Iraq War, losing his left arm above the elbow and left leg above the knee. He is a Purple Heart recipient and is also an inspirational speaker and author.
There will be food trucks on Short 20th Street, starting at 3:30 p.m. The high school marching bands from Birmingham City Schools and Stillman College are just some of the featured participants.
Here is the route:
Start at Fifth Avenue South and 15th Street South near McDonald’s
Head east to 17th Street South
Turn left onto 17th Street South and head north to 1st Ave. South
Turn right onto First Avenue South and head east to 20th St. South

Please know this: The eastbound traffic on Rev. Abraham Woods Jr. Blvd. will be merged into one lane, beginning in the 1800 block, which is near the Alabama School of Fine Arts. It will go up to about the east side of Boutwell Auditorium to accommodate the parade floats, etc. Those using the Boutwell Auditorium parking deck are encouraged to enter and exit via the 19th Street North side.
Although there might be brief traffic delays around City Hall on Sunday, Birmingham police will be prepared to keep traffic flowing efficiently as possible.
