Human Resources provides services in the areas of personnel, labor relations, training and development, benefits administration, occupational safety and health, and affirmative action plans for City employees.

Most positions with the City are filled through theĀ Personnel Board of Jefferson County. The Personnel Board is a countywide merit system responsible for recruitment and testing of job applicants. It maintains lists of applicants eligible for hiring. City vacancies are filled using these lists. For information on the Personnel Board, job application procedures, and current merit system job openings, call 205-279-3500.

It is the policy of the City of Birmingham to provide equal employment opportunities without regard to age, sex, race, color, creed, national origin, or disability. Equal opportunity employment concerns should be directed to the Personnel Director in Human Resources at 205-254-2819 for further investigation and resolution.
