BDOT Responsibilities
The City of Birmingham Department of Transportation (formerly Department of Traffic Engineering) is responsible for:
- Planning and designing the transportation system
- Permitting for the transportation system
- Engineering, analyzing, and planning the signal system
- Maintaining traffic signals
- Maintaining street lighting
- Maintaining road signs and markings
- Inspecting and planning paving, sidewalks, bridges, and tunnels
- Managing the on-street parking system throughout the city
