BDOT Responsibilities

The City of Birmingham Department of Transportation (formerly Department of Traffic Engineering) is responsible for:

Planning and designing the transportation system
Permitting for the transportation system
Engineering, analyzing, and planning the signal system
Maintaining traffic signals
Maintaining street lighting
Maintaining road signs and markings
Inspecting and planning paving, sidewalks, bridges, and tunnels
Managing the on-street parking system throughout the city
