Patience, People, and the Plan: Birmingham’s Revitalization and Five Points South

May 28, 2016 @ 10:00 am - 6:00 pm

The Linn-Henley Gallery at Vulcan Park and Museum will present, Patience, People, and the Plan: Birmingham’s Revitalization and Five Points South. In 1980, the city of Birmingham completed its master plan calling for the revitalization of struggling neighborhoods. Five Points South was recommended by Mayor Richard Arrington to be one of the models for this plan. Through a lot of hard work, controversy, and patience, Five Points South has become one of the city’s greatest success stories. The exhibit will highlight the changes that have taken place over the past thirty years in Five Points South, and provide examples of other neighborhoods that are following the same plan. The architectural distinctiveness, as well as the evolution of Five Points South’s business district and residential neighborhood, will play important roles in this exhibit. The exhibit is scheduled for a community opening May 28, 2016. More details to come at www.visitvulcan.com. 205-933-1409
