Prominent physician scientists in the UAB School of Medicine will hold informal discussions on hot topics in science and medicine on Thursday, Nov. 12 at the “Drinks with a Physician Scientist” event, sponsored by the UAB student chapter of the American Physician Scientists Association. Featured event speakers and their topics are:
* Christopher Willey, M.D., Ph.D., associate professor of Radiation Oncology, on current and future cancer therapies and patient-specific treatments
* Anupam Agarwal, M.D., professor and division director of Nephrology, on transplantation complications, diabetes and kidney failure
* Nancy Tofil, M.D., Ed.D., associate professor of Pediatrics in Critical Care, on the critical care of pediatric patients and the training of future physicians
* Amit Gaggar, M.D., Ph.D., associate professor of Medicine in the Pulmonary, Allergy and Critical Care Medicine, on future therapies for COPD and cystic fibrosis; lung disease and allergies
The evening will be an opportunity for attendees to meet and talk to practicing UAB physicians about medical research in a relaxed, informal environment. The event is free and open to the public, scheduled from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Cahaba Brewing Co., 2616 3rd Ave. South. The APSA chapter will provide appetizers; beverages will be available for purchase.
