Bus lane striping to begin on Monday, parking restricted
Birmingham, AL – On Monday, May 2 (or Tuesday in the event of inclement weather), the City of Birmingham will begin striping dedicated bus lanes in the UAB Medical District along 5th Avenue South and 18th Street North and South. This project is part of the preparation for the new Birmingham Xpress Bus Rapid Transit Project.
On-street parking will no longer be allowed along the corridor. The striping plan includes adding new crosswalk bars, left and right turn arrows, sharrows and more. The project is planned to last through the end of May.
