Lighting and LED conversion project approved for Birmingham Parks

The City of Birmingham will launch a pilot project with Alabama Power Company to upgrade lighting at parks throughout the city.

The project, approved by the Birmingham City Council on Tuesday, allows the city to enter into an agreement with Alabama Power to upgrade an estimated 345 LED fixtures at 16 city parks. In this agreement, the city will lease the equipment and electric service from Alabama Power. Alabama Power will make necessary repairs to the lights, convert them to LED and install new lighting systems.

“Park lighting has long been a concern of residents, so I’m grateful to both our city council and Alabama Power for their work in making these long-requested repairs,” Mayor Randall Woodfin said. “The safety of our residents is paramount, and these upgrades will go a long way in upholding our promise of revitalization and making these spaces even greater destinations.”

The 16 city parks are:

George Ward Park

Bradford Park
McMahon Park
