Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin Announces Key Members of Communication Team

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Mayor Randall Woodfin has announced key members of the Office of Public Information.

Longtime Alabama television journalist Rick Journey has been named Director of Communication, driving all strategic communications for Mayor Woodfin. Veteran journalist and corporate communication consultant Chanda Temple will serve as Public Information Officer, serving as the first-line of contact for public inquiry to the Mayor’s office.

“Our administration’s focus on servant leadership by putting people first starts with transparency and providing a clear message to our citizens and our employees that we will serve with the public’s best interest at the core of our work,” Mayor Woodfin said. “I am pleased to have Rick and Chanda be part of providing that clear message and joining an administration committed to core values of  transparency, efficiency, effectiveness, accountability and customer service.’’

Journey and Temple will be part of a restructuring of the Office of Public Information to place an emphasis on open communication within the city and among its residents.

“The Office of Public Information serves an important role in telling the story of our evolving city. I have called on our team to create a fresh, innovative way to talk with the people of Birmingham – residents, employees, small businesses, media, The City Council and all of those who come into the city every day,” Mayor Woodfin said.

Journey is a Birmingham native who has spent most of his career in the city as a broadcast journalist, first joining WBRC FOX6 News in 1992. Journey has also provided communication consulting in business and politics. He is a graduate of the University of Alabama.

Temple, also a graduate of the University of Alabama, has lived in the Birmingham area for more than 20 years. She’s handled public relations for the Birmingham Public Library and Birmingham City Schools and worked as a reporter for The Birmingham News.  Currently, she works as a communications consultant for BBVA Compass.

Temple will begin her duties as PIO on Dec. 20th.  Journey will begin on Dec. 29th.

Until their start dates, all questions and media requests should go to Ed Fields, senior advisor to Mayor Woodfin.
