Shared Micromobility Operators

For Potential Shared Micromobility System Operators

Thank you for your interest in operating a shared micromobility system in Birmingham. Companies interested in operating their shared micromobility services should read Ordinance No. 20-24. The ordinance covers the requirements for applicants and the information that should be included in the application. Potential system operators should have:

  • At least 3 years of experience operating micromobility systems.
  • The ability to provide both bikes and scooters, at a ratio of 1:2.
  • Never terminated a permit/agreement prior to its expiration.

Application Process

Due to delays related to COVID-19, the City of Birmingham has just launched their shared micromobility program in April 2021.

We encourage vendors to submit applications during the months of February, March, and April, although technically the ordinance allows for submittals up through the month of June. Please note: applications received after the start of the city’s fiscal year may be delayed. Please submit your application as soon as possible for consideration. The complete process of review may take up to 90 days.

Applicants should read the entire ordinance before completing the application form. To ask questions or to submit an application, please contact bdot@birminghamal.gov
