Vehicle Break-in Update

The Birmingham Police Department reports today that three suspects have been taken into custody in connection with two vehicle break-ins that occurred on Tuesday, December 3, 2010. The incident took place in the 100 block of 4th Court West at approximately 12:13 a.m. A Birmingham Police officer from the North Precinct responded to the incident location and located suspects forcibly entering two vehicles. As the officer took two of the suspects into custody, a third suspect attempted to leave the scene at a high rate of speed in a vehicle. During this time the suspect driving the vehicle struck one of the suspects the officer was taking into custody. The driver continued several yards, dragging the suspect along the roadway. A short time later the suspect driving the vehicle lost control and wrecked into a brick wall after the officer discharged his weapon, striking the suspect in the wrist. The driver was taken into custody following a short foot pursuit.

The suspect struck by the vehicle and the driver of the vehicle were transported to U.A.B. Hospital for treatment.

Suspect #1 Victim struck by the vehicle is a juvenile and investigators anticipate obtaining warrants on him at a later time. The suspect/victim remains in the hospital receiving treatment for multiple injuries he sustained.

Suspect #2 Driver in this case has been identified as: Anthony Threat, 29, B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama. An Unlawful Breaking and Entering a Vehicle warrant with a $15,000.00 bond has been obtained against the suspect. A Possession of Burglary Tools warrant with a $15,000.00 bond has also been obtained against the suspect.

Suspect #3 in this case has been identified as: Tony Johnson, 25, B/M, of Birmingham, Alabama. An Unlawful Breaking and Entering a Vehicle warrant with a $15,000.00 bond has been obtained against the suspect. A Possession of Burglary Tools warrant with a $15,000.00 bond has also been obtained against the suspect. The suspect was also arrested on a Failure to Appear warrant for Robbery 1st degree and a Probation Violation for Assault 1st degree.

The Alabama Bureau of Investigation will investigate the discharging of the officer’s weapon that injured suspect #2.

Both suspects #1 and #2 remain in the hospital receiving treatment and both are expected to recover. Suspect #3 is in the custody of the City Jail.

A photo of the adult suspects may be obtained at the B.P.D. Headquarters, located at 1710 1st Avenue North.
