Robbery/Attempted Murder Arrest

The Birmingham Police Department reports that detectives have arrested and charged a suspect in connection with a robbery and attempted murder investigation. The incident took place on Sunday, May 6, 2012.

Officers from the West Precinct responded to the 2800 block of Avenue I at approximately 3:30 a.m. to investigate a report of an assault. Upon arrival, officers learned that a suspect robbed the victim before hitting her in the head with a concrete block. The suspect also left the scene with the victim’s car and purse.

West Precinct officers and BPD investigators utilized information from the victim and additional sources to obtain information that led to the suspect’s identity. A short time later, officers located the victim’s vehicle at the suspect’s home. Officers were able to locate the suspect at his residence and take him into custody. Investigators later learned that the victim met the suspect through the internet and arranged to meet at the incident location. The victim is currently receiving treatment from her injuries.

The suspect has been identified as:
Xavier Watson, B/M, 32, of Birmingham, Alabama.
The following warrants were obtained against the suspect:
Robbery 1st Degree - $60,000.00 bond
Attempted Murder - $60,000.00 bond

The suspect is in the custody of the Birmingham City Jail.
