Accident Investigation Arrests

The Birmingham Police Department reports that two suspects are in custody in connection with a fatal accident investigation.

On Tuesday, October 2, 2012, members of the BPD Crime Reduction Team (CRT) and Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force (GCRFTF) aided in the investigation of a fatal vehicle accident that occurred on October 1, 2012 at the intersection of Lexington Avenue and Highway 269. The accident resulted in the death of three family members travelling in their vehicle and investigators found that the occupants of the second vehicle fled the scene after the collision. On Tuesday, October 2, 2012, members of both fugitive teams gathered intelligence that led them to 1606 42nd Street Ensley. Officers responded to the location and learned that two subjects were inside the residence. After both subjects refused to comply with demands to exit, officers entered and located both subjects in a closet. Both subjects were taken into custody without further incident.

One subject is believed to have been in the vehicle involved in the fatal accident. The second subject is suspected of aiding the first subject avoid capture.

The suspects are currently in the custody of the Birmingham City Jail.

Additional suspect information will be release pending completion of warrant procedures.
