Robbery Arrest

The Birmingham Police Department reports that a suspect has been charged in connection with a robbery investigation.

The suspect has been identified as: Mardriquez High, B/M, 19, of Birmingham, Alabama.  A Robbery warrant has been obtained against the suspect.

On Saturday, June 16, 2012, off-duty BPD officers were alerted that a robbery was taking place in the 4100 block of 3rd Avenue South. As officers approached, they observed a male citizen attempting to restrain the suspect. Officers later learned that the citizen observed the incident taking place before he intervened. The suspect managed to escape the grasp of the citizen before officers could arrive by implying to the citizen he had a gun. Off-duty officers notified South Precinct officers that responded to the area to assist. Officers pursued the suspect on foot for several blocks before apprehending him. Officers were able to recover the victim’s purse and cell phone. The female robbery victim suffered a separated shoulder during the incident and is now recovering.

The suspect is in the custody of the Jefferson County Jail.

A photo of the suspect may be obtained at the B.P.D. Headquarters, located at 1710 1st Avenue North.
