Alabama Law Enforcement Torch Run

Kidnapping Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department reports today that a victim has been located in connection with a kidnapping that took place on Tuesday, January 18, 2011.

Officers were notified by the victim’s mother who stated her ex-husband had taken the victim as they left their residence for school. The victim’s mother stated the suspect left with the victim when the victim approached him to give him a hug.

Family Services detectives, members of the BPD Crime Reduction Team (CRT) and U.S. Marshal’s office were able to track the suspect and found that he had driven to Atlanta, Georgia and made his way onto a flight headed out of the U.S. Authorities outside the U.S. were notified and were able to make contact with the suspect and victim in Amsterdam. The suspect was taken into custody and the victim is reported as doing fine and is in the custody of Amsterdam authorities.

The victim has been identified as: Hofmann, Dianna, W/F, 4, of Birmingham, Alabama.

The suspect has been identified as: Hofmann, Christian, W/M, 29, victim’s father. A Kidnapping (Interference with custody of a child) warrant has been obtained against the suspect. Federal charges are pending.
