The Birmingham Police Department reports that two suspects are in custody in connection with
investigations of theft in the tornado affected area of Pratt City.
On May 5, 2011 at approximately 9:00 p.m., a
concerned citizen notified police that subjects were in the area with flashlights searching though debris
in the 900 block of Nelems Street. This area is located in the tornado affected
neighborhood of Pratt City. Birmingham Police Officers responded and found that the suspects had placed
Alabama Power transformers inside their vehicle trunk.
The first suspect has been identified as: Joshua Clark, B/M, 19, of
Brookside, Alabama. A Receiving Stolen Property warrant has been obtained against the suspect.
The second suspect has been identified as: Willie Smith, B/M, 19, of
Birmingham, Alabama. A Receiving Stolen Property warrant has been obtained against the suspect. Suspect
2 was a resident that lived in the same block of the arrest.
The suspects are in the custody of the Jefferson County Jail.
