Alabama Law Enforcement Torch Run

Homicide Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department reports today that detectives are investigating a homicide. The incident occurred on Saturday, March 26, 2011 at approximately 10:30 p.m. at #2 41st Street South.

Officers from the South Precinct responded to the incident location to investigate a report of shots fired.  Upon arrival, officers located the victim lying in the street suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.  Birmingham Fire and Rescue responded and transported the victim to U.A.B. Hospital for treatment.  Hospital staff pronounced the victim deceased on Thursday, April 7, 2011. A second victim suffered a gunshot wound, but is expected to recover from his injury.

Officers found that the victims had just exited a teen club located at the incident location when the shooting took place.  Witnesses described a red Chevrolet Monte Carlo and a square-bodied Buick leaving the scene after the shooting.

The victim has been identified as:  Willie Burch, B/M, 17, of Birmingham, Alabama.

No arrests have been made at this time.  Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
