Robbery Investigation Arrest

On November 3, 2011 at 4:50 p.m., East Precinct officers responded to 5310 1st Avenue North on a Post Office Robbery.  The suspect passed a note to the teller demanding money and implied he had a weapon.  The suspect fled the location in a pickup truck with currency from the register.  Shortly after, East Precinct sergeants located the suspect vehicle at an abandoned house in the 5200 block of Messer Airport Highway.  As officers approached on foot, the suspect attempted to strike them with the vehicle. As the suspect fled, he struck a vehicle in the intersection of Georgia Road and Messer-Airport Highway.  The suspect was taken into custody in the 4900 block of Messer-Airport Highway after a brief foot pursuit.  A citizen, involved in the accident received a broken leg.

The suspect has been identified as: Kevin Wade Peoples, W/M, 45, of Birmingham, Alabama. Investigators obtained warrants for Robbery of a Federal Institution, Attempted Murder, Felony Eluding Police, Felony Leaving the Scene of an Accident with Injuries, and Resisting Arrest.

The suspect is in the custody of the Jefferson County Jail.
