Homicide Investigation Update

The Birmingham Police Department reports that detectives are investigating a homicide. The incident occurred at approximately 11:15 p.m. at 1113 14th Street North.

The victim has been identified as: Derrick Peoples, B/M, 31, of Birmingham, Alabama.

Officers from the North Precinct responded to the incident location to investigate a report of a person shot. Investigators learned that the victim was arriving at his cousin’s apartment when he was shot several times. The victim managed to make it to the top landing of the apartment complex stairway where officers located him suffering from fatal gunshot wounds. Birmingham Fire and Rescue arrived at the scene and pronounced the victim deceased. A Crime Stoppers reward is available for information on this case.

There have been no arrests or charges filed in the case. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.

A photo of the victim may be obtained at the B.P.D. Headquarters, located at 1710 1st Avenue North.
