The Birmingham Police Department reports that a suspect is in custody in connection with an accident investigation. Just before
11:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 3, 2011, officers responded to Interstate 20/59 north near Arkadelphia to investigate a traffic
accident. Upon arrival officers located a male occupant of a Ford Escort, who was pronounced deceased on the scene. Birmingham Fire and Rescue arrived and transported
the second occupant of the Ford Escort to U.A.B. Hospital for treatment of her injuries. The second victim was later pronounced deceased by hospital staff. The
driver of a Chevrolet Tahoe was also taken to the hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The accident also caused damage to three additional
vehicles travelling near the area. No other injuries were reported.
Accident investigators later determined that driver of the Chevrolet Tahoe was travelling on Interstate 20/59 south just
before he lost control and crossed the median into oncoming traffic. Investigators determined that the suspect’s vehicle became airborne and landed on the victim’s
The first victim has been identified as: Keothus Carlisle, B/M, 63, of Fairfield, Alabama.
The second victim has been identified as: Cynthia Foster Womack, B/F, 58, of Fairfield, Alabama.
The suspect has been identified as: Willie Turner, B/M, 30, of Birmingham, Alabama. Two Manslaughter warrants with a
$60,000.00 bond on each charge have been obtained against the suspect.
The suspect is in the custody of the Birmingham City Jail.
