Homicide Investigation Update

The Birmingham Police Department reports today that two suspects have been taken into custody in connection with a homicide discovered on Wednesday, January 12, 2011 at approximately 7:00 a.m. at Nelson Avenue and Hixon Street.

Investigators obtained information that the suspects robbed and assaulted another victim near the homicide location. After obtaining additional information and identifying the suspects, they were taken into custody by West Precinct Task Force officers and Homicide detectives.

The victim has been identified as:  `Donald Durr, B/M 49, transient.

Suspect #1 has been identified as: James Holmes Jr., B/M, 19, of Birmingham, Alabama.  A Murder warrant with a $500,000.00 bond has been obtained against the suspect.

Suspect #2 has been identified as:  J’Andre Cockrell, B/M, 18, of Birmingham, Alabama.  A Murder warrant with a $500,000.00 bond has been obtained against the suspect.
