During the Birmingham City Council Meeting Tuesday, January 31, 2012, Council:
1. Approved a resolution urging the Mayor to declare Council District One a disaster and to assign all necessary City personnel to facilitate cleanup, repair, renovation and recovery from the severe storms, tornado and straight-line winds that occurred on January 23, 2012 in the Winewood, Redstone and Sun Valley communities. 2. Approved the appointment of Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC), Birmingham, in an amount not to exceed $21,000.00, to provide consulting services to include hosting, promoting the City of Birmingham as a sponsor and facilitating the SWAC 2012 Indoor Track and Field Championship at the Crossplex Facility from February 29 through March 2, 2012.
3. Appointed Georgia Morgan Blair, Dora Sims and Monique Gardner-Witherspoon to the Birmingham Library Board, all three (3) terms expiring December 31, 2016.
4. Set a public hearing March 13, 2012 to consider the adoption of an Ordinance designating part of Norwood as a Local Historic District.
5. Set a public hearing March 13, 2012 to consider the adoption of an Ordinance “to amend the zoning district map of the city of Birmingham†(Case No. ZAC2011-00018) to change zone district boundaries from R-3 Single Family District to B-1 Neighborhood Business District, filed by Joey Miller of Miller, Triplett and Miller Engineers, Inc., representing the owner, Steven Williams, for property located at 5204 and 5212 Jefferson Avenue Southwest, situated in the NW¼ of Section 25, Township 18 South, Range 4 West, Birmingham.
6. Set a public hearing March 6, 2012 to consider the adoption of an Ordinance "to amend the zoning district map of the city of Birmingham" (Case No. ZAC2011-00019) to change zone district boundaries from R-4 Two-Family and Semi-Attached Dwelling District to R-6 Multiple Dwelling District, filed by Bradley Carroll of Vantage Development LLC, representing the owner the City of Birmingham, for property located at 100 Tuscaloosa Avenue, situated in the NE¼ of Section 3, Township 18 South, Range 3 West, Birmingham.
7. Placed on consent a resolution accepting the lump sum bid of Monumental Contracting Service LLC, 425 – 19th Street Ensley Birmingham, in the amount of $2,104,000.00, for construction of the Oxmoor Valley Community Center at One Knights of Columbus Parkway this being the lowest bid submitted meeting specifications, and authorizing the Mayor to execute the contract in accordance with said bid.

1. Birmingham City Councilor Lashunda Scales will host a second mass cleanup on Saturday, February 4, 2012. At 8:30 a.m., volunteers should report to the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge on Winewood Road off of East Pinson Valley Parkway.
