April Odom is the Director of Communications for the City of Birmingham, Alabama. With an extensive background in web development and public relations, April began her career shelving books at the Birmingham Public Library.
The City of Birmingham’s web site began in 1994 as her school project and has grown into a thriving hub of information for citizens of Birmingham.
With her experience in website development, designing and delivering training, April has been invaluable as the City of Birmingham has transitioned to a digital environment. She has kept information current and efficient by reengineering the City’s web presence. In addition, the Office of Public Information is responsible for all media inquiries, all Mayoral communications and the publicizing of events and initiatives for the Mayor’s Office via all forms of media.
April is a graduate of the University of Alabama at Birmingham and is a member of Public Relations Society of America PRSA and the National Association of Government Webmasters (NAGW). Aside from her continuing efforts to expand and evolve the many jobs of the Office of Public Information, April enjoys spending time with her husband and three children.
