HUD grant applications now open for Birmingham nonprofit and for-profit organizations

Dec. 11, 2020 (Birmingham, Alabama) –HUD grant applications are open now through Jan. 29 via the City of Birmingham’s Community Development Office. Applications must be submitted no later than 4 p.m. CST on Jan. 29.

The goal of the funding is to help organizations that work with low to moderate income families in Birmingham, assist those families in gaining access to essential services such as housing, childcare, drug recovery, mental health counseling, etc. The funds can also be used to create workforce and job development opportunities for low to moderate income individuals, said Chris Hatcher, director of the city’s Community Development office.

The City of Birmingham’s Community Development office will host online information sessions, also known as public hearings, on Monday, Dec. 14 and Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2021 at 9:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. CST. The links for the virtual sessions are included at the bottom of this release.

The grants are:

  • The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG)
  • The HOME Investment Partnerships Program (HOME)
  • The Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG)
  • Housing Opportunities for Persons With AIDS (HOPWA).

Please note that for-profit organizations and individuals may apply for the HOME grant. Individuals that apply for HOME funds to build new housing or rehab housing for low-income families cannot use the funds for their personal homestead.
