City Offers Incentives Package to Secure Deontay Wilder Fight

A $30,000 incentive package will be on Monday’s City Council Budget and Finance Meeting agenda. The package is meant to secure the next heavyweight title defense bout in Birmingham at the Legacy Arena in the city center. Previous fights have netted an impressive $3.5 Million in economic impact for the City while garnering international media coverage and positive press throughout the boxing world.

“We feel strongly about making Birmingham a destination point and in order to do that, we need to continue to push to host events that draw in visitors here. The economic impact numbers alone mean this is an event that we want in the City,” said Mayor William Bell.

WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder is set to make his title defense in Birmingham against Chris Arreola on July 16th.
